WIA Summer Youth Employment Program

The 2009 Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Summer Youth Employment Program received over 400 applications and a total of 165 youth enrolled. Twenty community organizations and businesses provided 140 employment opportunities for youth ages 14 to 24. Beginning June 1, youth began working at 25 sites throughout the community. Participants were divided into age groups: 14-15 yrs. old, 16-17 yrs. old and the 18 and over group. The youth worked 30 hours per week, six hours per day, five days a week. The 16-17 age group worked for 10 weeks while the 18 and older group worked 20 weeks.
