Foster Parent Requirements

What it takes to be a foster parent

You may apply to become a licensed foster parent if you:

• Are at least 21 years old

• Are married or single

• Have income sufficient to meet the basic needs of the household

• Are able to provide a safe and healthy home for a child

• Have enough living space for a child

• Want to work closely with other team members to help a child and restore a family.  

 

The Foster Care Process


Each family who wishes to foster must complete a home study assessment. The home study is a process of education and self-evaluation. There is no fee to have your home study completed.


The home study process includes, but is not limited to:

  • 36 hours of pre-service training
  • background checks / references
  • fingerprinting
  • fire inspection
