Things to think about before becoming certified
Following is information to help determine if you want to become a certified child care provider for Job & Family Services of Clark County (JFSCC):
Ratio:
Certified providers are limited to caring for six children at any time. No more than three of the six children may be under age two. Your own children count toward the limit until they reach age six. The limit includes children you enroll on a private pay basis apart from the Department of Job & Family Services.
Pay Rate:
You will be reimbursed monthly. Your rates will be based on full or part-time care and the age of the children.
Taxes:
As an in-home child care provider, you will be considered self-employed. Job & Family Services does not withhold taxes, social security, etc. All earnings for your child care services are reported to the IRS. You must file taxes as a business.
Parental Choice:
Parents select their child care provider from a list of certified and licensed providers given to them by 4C for Children (937) 220-9660 or (800) 256-1296, and through interviews with providers. We cannot guarantee that you will have children of JFSCC customers to care for once you are certified.
Background Check:
According to state law, the provider, the emergency caregiver; an individual approved to provide child care for the provider in case of an ememrgeny in the provider’s home and all adult residents of the provider’s home must submit to fingerprinting for a criminal background check. Providers who have resided in Ohio for less than five years, must also have an FBI check. Please refer to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services Statement of Nonconviction for a list of criminal convictions that disqualify candidates for certification. Candidates also will be disqualified if a child has been removed from their home pursuant to section 2151.353 of the Ohio Revised Code, or for any substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect. Please refer to Request for Child Abuse and Neglect Report Information.
Education Requirements:
Child care providers are required to have a high school diploma or GED. Prior to certification, candidates will be required to attend a one-week child care seminar, “Making Child Care a Business.”
