Child Care Program Information

Helping to pay for child care is one of the many supportive services  provided by Clark County Department of Job and Family Services.

If the parent is working, attending school or taking part in vocational training, the family may qualify for child care subsidy.

Payments are made to certified child care providers or centers under contract with the department. Becoming a certified provider is a simple process. Often families can use their same provider and payments can start upon certification.

Parents Needing Assistance of Child Care

Parents requesting child care subsidy, should call one of our child care eligibility specialist. They can discuss the program and/or schedule an appointment. Services are available on a limited walk in basis at the Workplus building

The eligibility specialist will individually determine based on your specific information. However, some basic requirements are:

-Employed or participating in a training or educational activity

-Income guidelines are based on family size and gross monthly income

There is a co-payment amount that parents must pay to the provider of their child care. The co-payment amount is based on the income and size of the family. Only providers under contract with the department can be utilized to provide the child care. For a listing of providers, you can contact Child Care Connections at 323-4211. Child Care Connections is one of our partners at the Workplus building.

Becoming a Child Care Provider

Persons interested in contracting with the Department to provide child care services, should contact one of our licensing specialists listed below.

Applicants must supply references, obtain a medical evaluation, sign releases for local police records check, provide fingerprints for a criminal background check, and meet health and safety standards. Also, a five day training class paid for by the Department, is required prior to certification.

Certified Type B providers are self-employed contractors with the Department.  The homes are inspected at least twice per year, one being unannounced. The homes used by the providers must meet the safety standards, such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, first-aid kits, and well water certification if necessary.
